The 1979 Blue Swords Cup (Pokal der Blauen Schwerter) international figure skating championship was held in East Berlin, East Germany. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles and pair skating.

On 16 November, East Germany's Jan Hoffmann and Mario Liebers placed first and second, respectively, in the men's singles competition.[1] In the women's singles, Anett Pötzsch from Karl-Marx-Stadt placed first.[2]
