1999–2000 Montreal Canadiens season

NHL hockey team season From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1999–2000 Montreal Canadiens season was the club's 91st season of play. The club failed to qualify for the 2000 Stanley Cup playoffs for a second year in a row. It was only the second time since the NHL's founding that the Canadiens had missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons, the first being three straight misses since the 1920–21 season to 1921–22 season.

The Canadiens did not have a player who reached at least 50 points throughout the season. Pierre Boivin replaced Ronald Corey as team president.[1] On September 2, 1999, Molson executive James Arnett announced that Molson, owner since 1957, would put the franchise up for sale.[2]

Off season

Saku Koivu makes Canadiens history, as the first European to be named the team's captain. He succeeds Vincent Damphousse, who was traded the previous season.
