2014 Dublin West by-election

By-election to the 31st Dáil From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Dáil by-election was held in the constituency of Dublin West in Ireland on Friday, 23 May 2014, to fill a vacancy in the 31st Dáil. It followed the resignation of independent Teachta Dála (TD) Patrick Nulty[a] on 22 March 2014.[1]

It was held on the same day as the 2014 European and local elections, and the Longford–Westmeath by-election.[2]

The Electoral (Amendment) Act 2011 stipulates that a by-election in Ireland must be held within six months of a vacancy occurring.[3]

Socialist Party candidate Ruth Coppinger was elected on the sixth count.[4]

This was the second by-election in Dublin West during the 31st Dáil.
