Background
The 2025 constitutional referendum approved a bicameral legislature. The lower chamber, National Assembly, will be direcly elected. It will have 147 seats, 49 of them are directly elected based on a national list on proportional representation. The remaining 98 seats are elected on constituency level.[3]
On 6 March 2026, the government of president Mamady Doumbouya unilaterally dissolved 40 political parties, including the three main opposition parties in the country (UFDG, RPG and UFR).[4]
Local elections take place at the same time. It is expected that the indirectly elected Senate will be elected and organized after the local elections.
