Background

The 2026 Indian Premier League was the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a professional Twenty20 (T20) cricket league, organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).[1] On 11 March, first part of the season's schedule was announced with the 2026 season set to commence from 28 March.[2] The complete fixtures for the league stage were announced on 26 March with 10 teams competing in 74 matches across 13 venues. [3][4][5] On 6 May, the playoff fixtures were confirmed[6] with the final scheduled for 31 May at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad with the venue hosting its fourth final after 2022, 2023 and 2025.[7][8]

The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru qualified for their fifth IPL final after being runners-up in 2009, 2011 and 2016, and champions in 2025. They also became the fourth team to qualify for two consecutive IPL finals.[9][10] Gujarat Titans qualified for their third IPL final after being champions in 2022 and runners-up in 2023.[11] Both teams will compete for their second titles.[12] Both teams had won their maiden titles at this same venue in 2025 and 2022 respectively.
