The 2026 Mumbai Shivaji Park protests began on 2 October 2026 (Gandhi Jayanti), organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) as part of the larger 2026 anti-CEC protests.[1] The demonstrations are specifically targeted at forcing the resignation and criminal investigation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over the 2026 Indian electoral controversy concerning voter deletions amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The demands also included a total freeze on the SIR process, the restoration of prior voter lists, and an independent mechanism for appointing election commissioners.[2][3][4][5][6]
- Resignation and criminal proceedings against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
- Freezing of the SIR process and restoration of previous voter lists
- Repeal of laws governing the appointment of election commissioners

Background
Shivaji Park has historically functioned as a central public space for political rallies and social movements in Mumbai.[7][8] Strict legal restrictions under Bombay High Court rulings limit non-sporting and political gatherings at the ground to protect its status as a residential neighborhood and sports complex. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced "Protest 2.0" (referring to the 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protests) and "Jail Bharo Andolan" for October 2, 2026, aiming to challenge the Election Commission's actions.[9][10]
