In January 2026, it was confirmed that the Wellington Phoenix and Auckland FC would no longer be participants in the Australia Cup, as New Zealand-based teams were omitted from the 2026 edition.[3] This marks the first time since the 2013–14 season in which the Phoenix do not play in a cup competition.
