Early life

Sergio Garcia was born in Midwest City, Oklahoma to immigrant parents from Mexico, Garcia described living in Oklahoma as "slow-paced". Growing up, he originally wanted to be a basketball player, but chose to quit due to him seeing other players being taller and more professional than him.[2] During his time in Oklahoma, Garcia worked a variety of jobs, which included working at a grocery store, restaurant, and a 7-Eleven, which he quit three days after due to the environment of the people he encountered.[3][1]

Career

Garcia began to make music in the mid-2010s under the name GGS, initially making traditional rap music. In 2016, during the boom of the SoundCloud era, Garcia became a fan of artists such as Smokepurpp, Lil Pump, and XXXTentacion. Garcia's breakout track "Shrimp" was released on March 16, 2025, and later went viral online. On November 29, Garcia released his debut mixtape, titled SsoMe.[1] On November 14, 2025, Garcia released his debut studio album, titled High Anxiety, comprising 13 tracks and a feature from Izaya Tiji.[1][4]

Garcia was announced to make his debut at Rolling Loud 2026 in Orlando, Florida.[5] On February 6, 2026, Garcia released the deluxe to his November album, titled More Anxiety.[6] On February 20, 2026, Garcia appeared in the Underground Sound 2026 cypher alongside RainingLol, sixbill, and Matt Proxy, among others.[1]

Garcia has been co-signed by artists such as PlaqueBoyMax,[1] and Lil Uzi Vert.[7][8]

Musical style

2Slimey's viewed as a polarizing rapper with reviewers feeling mixed about him,[9] Complex described Garcia's music as "weird, off-kilter rhythms of the neo-jerk wave", blended with "the bit-crushed drums of hyperpop, and covers it all in deep-fried distortion."[1] Kieran Press-Reynolds of Pitchfork wrote how Garcia's releases had been preceded by the influence of Luci4.[10] Mano Sundaresan of Pitchfork wrote how Garcia's vocals "echo like a poltergeist over a beat that feels like the Giga-zombie running at you in 28 Years Later."[11][12][13].

Alphonse Pierre of Pitchfork felt somewhat skeptical about Garcia's music, writing how Garcia's attention is strange and how he lacks personality but represents what rage rap is right now.[9] Olivier Lafontant of the same magazine company was fairly critical, yet analytical when describing Garcia's music. He wrote that Garcia's popularity is mostly about internet virality and novelty, and that he's a product of it. Lafontant compares Garcia to Yeat and his album 2 Alive, stating how Yeat has catchiness and identity, which Garcia lacks. He also writes about how people are drawn to Garcia's music because of the meme aspect and appearance.[9]

Antonio Johri of Complex wrote how Garcia is an artist to watch for in 2026 due to his rise in fame; he compares Garcia to Che, but to a more extreme version. He also wrote how Garcia's music mixes hyperpop, rage rap, digicore, and noise, writing how his songs are intentionally very loud, distorted, and chaotic, with heavy bass and aggressive Auto-Tune. While the sound can feel overwhelming, some songs still become surprisingly catchy, like "meat." Overall, Johri thinks 2Slimey is pushing rage rap to its limits.[14]
