2001 Cannes Film Festival

The 54th Cannes Film Festival took place from 9 to 20 May 2001.[1][2] Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullmann served as the Jury President of the main competition; she replaced American actress and filmmaker Jodie Foster, who had to step down due to scheduling conflicts with the film Panic Room.[3] Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti won the Palme d'Or for the drama film The Son's Room.[4][5][6]

The festival opened with Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann,[7][8] and closed with Savage Souls by Raúl Ruiz.[9]
