The 5th Legislature of the Third Portuguese Republic (Portuguese: V Legislatura da Terceira República Portuguesa) ran from 13 August 1987 to 3 November 1991.[2] The composition of the Assembly of the Republic, the legislative body of Portugal, was determined by the results of the 1987 legislative election, held on 19 July 1987.
The 6th Portuguese legislative election was held on 19 July 1987. In the election, the Social Democratic Party (PPD/PSD) won by a landslide with an absolute majority, the first for a single party in democracy.[3]
