The 69th Infantry Brigade is an infantry brigade of the Bangladesh Army. It is a key formation under the 24th Infantry Division and is primarily responsible for operations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, focusing on counter-insurgency and border security along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier.[1] Its headquarters is located at Bandarban Cantonment in Bandarban District, Chittagong Division.
The 69th Infantry Brigade was established in 1976 as one of the initial components of the newly formed 24th Infantry Division at Chittagong Cantonment.[2] Initially stationed in Chittagong, the brigade played a crucial role in the early stages of the division's deployment to address security challenges in the southeastern hill tracts. Over time, it was relocated to Bandarban Cantonment to enhance operational effectiveness in the rugged terrain of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
During the Chittagong Hill Tracts conflict, the brigade participated in various counter-insurgency operations, including Operation Dragon Drive, aimed at neutralizing insurgent activities and restoring stability in the region.[3] The brigade has also been involved in joint ventures and development projects in the area, such as tourism initiatives, reflecting its multifaceted role in regional stability and development.
In recent years, the brigade has contributed personnel to international peacekeeping missions, with several of its former commanders serving in high-ranking positions with the United Nations.
