The A8 is a highway under construction which is planned to connect the city of Limassol with the mountain region of Saittas, to connect to further roads in the Troodos Mountains.
First phase
Phase 1 of the Limassol-Saïtta motorway project focuses on the section between Polemidia and Palodia, spanning approximately 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi). This phase involves the construction of essential infrastructure, including four roundabouts, a pedestrian crossing, an underpass, and retaining walls. The project, with an estimated cost of €26,126,000 + VAT, commenced construction on 19 September 2020, originally slated for completion by 13 March 2023.[1][2]
Second phase
The anticipated second phase of the Limassol-Saïtta motorway project has faced postponements, with its commencement now projected for 2025 instead of the initially planned 2024 start. Budgetary allocations for the year 2024 indicate a mere €50,000 earmarked for studies, reflecting a delay in crucial preparatory steps such as awaiting plans from the Land Registry and pending environmental assessments. Exacerbating the situation, unresolved issues with expropriations and environmental considerations, notably within NATURA-designated areas, have surfaced, necessitating additional studies and approvals.[1]
