As a protégé of Gönenli Mehmed Efendi, he studied tefsir, hadis, kelâm and fıkıh (each a subject of Islamic study) under Hüsrev Efendi, Ömer Nasuhi Bilmen, Bekir Hâkı and Dersâm Selahaddin.
