Akhmed Bataev (Russian: Ахмед Султанович Батаев; born 23 September 1991) is a Russian-born Bulgarian wrestler. He won the silver medal in the 92 kg event at the 2022 European Wrestling Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.[1][2]

Career

Batayev trained at the Irbaykhanov Brothers Wrestling School in Khasavyurt. He was coached by Jaa Umarov. He is of Chechen origin.[3] During the Russian period of his career, he won the Kadyrov Cup in Grozny in 2015, and one week later won the 7th Intercontinental Cup held in Khasavyurt.[4]

He began competing for Bulgaria in 2019 and became Bulgarian champion in his first year. He repeated this success in 2020.[5][6] He also won the Bulgarian national title in 2021.[7] He won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 97 kg event at the 2020 Individual Wrestling World Cup held in Belgrade, Serbia.[8][9] In 2021, he competed in the European and World qualification tournaments for the Tokyo Olympics, but did not obtain an Olympic quota place. The same year, he competed in the 97 kg event at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships.[10]

At the 2022 European Wrestling Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, he won the silver medal in the men's freestyle 92 kg event. Batayev defeated Spain's Damián Iglesias 7–1 in the quarterfinals, then drew 4–4 with Azerbaijan's Osman Nurmagomedov in the semifinals and advanced to the final on last-point criteria. In the final, he lost 6–1 to Turkish wrestler Feyzullah Aktürk and finished the tournament in second place.[11][12] He competed in the 92 kg event at the 2022 World Championships. He later won silver and gold medals at the Dan Kolov & Nikola Petrov Tournament in 2023 and 2026, respectively. In 2025, he won the gold medal in the 92 kg event at the Yaşar Doğu Tournament.[10] In 2024, he became champion at the Bulgarian Freestyle Wrestling Championships held in Stara Zagora, defeating Andrian Volkanov in the final.[13] In 2025, he again won the national title at the Bulgarian Championships held in Vratsa.[14]

At the 2026 European Wrestling Championships held in Tirana, Albania, he won the silver medal in the men's freestyle 92 kg event. He lost in the final to Ali Tcokaev, who competed for Azerbaijan, and finished the tournament in second place.[15][16]
