Akpovi Akoègninou (1950 – 7 March 2025) was a Beninese botanist and academic.[1][2]
In 2004, with Stanisław Lisowski, Akoègninou identified a new species, Thunbergia atacorensis, a plant of the Acanthaceae family, native to Benin's Natitingou region. [3][4] That same year, he identified another plant species, Ipomoea beninensis of the Convolvulaceae family alongside Loskowski and Brice Sinsin.[5]
He headed the botany department at the University of Abomey-Calavi. [6]
Akoègninou died on 7 March 2025.[7]
