Al-Kawthar
108th chapter of the Qur'an
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Al-Kawthar (Arabic: اÙÙÙثر, lit.â'Abundance')[1] is the 108th chapter (sÅ«rah) of the Quran. It is the shortest chapter, consisting of three ayat or verses:
- Û[2] Verily, We have granted you abundance.[3]
- Û So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].[4]
- Û Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.[5]
There are several opinions regarding its timing and contextual background of revelation (asbÄb al-nuzÅ«l). According to Ibn Ishaq, it is an early Meccan surah, revealed in Mecca.[6]
The word Kawthar is derived from the triliteral root ٠- ث - ر (k - th - r), meaning "to increase, to be plentiful, abundance."[7] It appears in the Qur'an solely in this sūrah.
