One origin is from the Greek Ἀλέξανδρος meaning 'defender of men'.[1] In Scotland, Alexander is an Anglicised form of the Scottish Gaelic MacAlasdair. It is a somewhat common Scottish name, and the region of Scotland where it traditionally is most commonly found is the Highlands.[citation needed]
