Schwabl achieved remarkable consistency at the national level, winning the Austrian shot put championship seven consecutive years from 1950 to 1956.[4] This seven-year winning streak established him as the leading Austrian shot putter of his era.[4]
Schwabl competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, which marked his first and only Olympic appearance.[1][2][3] In the qualifying round, he threw 15.00 meters to secure the 9th position and advance to the final.[5][6][7] During the final competition, he recorded a distance of 14.45 meters, finishing in 13th place overall.[5][6][7] The event was won by American Parry O'Brien with an Olympic record throw of 17.41 meters.[5]
Two years after his Olympic appearance, Schwabl represented Austria at the 1954 European Athletics Championships in Bern, Switzerland.[8] In the qualification round on 27 August 1954, he threw 14.14 meters, finishing 19th overall.[8]
Schwabl's personal best in the shot put was 15.17 meters, achieved in 1952 at Vienna.[9] This performance placed him among the world's top shot putters that year.[9]
