Amadi is a Nigerian surname, highly common among the Igbo and Ikwerre people. It is equivalent to English's Freeman,[1] denoting, in the precolonial days, a man who was not of Osu caste. Ama meaning "land" and di meaning "master, lord". This is where the precolonial god, Amadioha, gets his name. Notable people with this surname:
