History

Ananea District was created on May 2, 1854.

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (57.88%) learnt to speak in childhood, 36.50% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]

Climate

Ananea, due to extreme elevation, experiences an alpine tundra climate (Köppen climate classification, ETH), with constant cold temperatures throughout the entire year.
