Annette Marian Doherty is a British chemist who is President of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She was a leader in the pharmaceutical sector, where she focussed on new drugs for cancer and respiratory diseases. She has served as Chair of various NHS trusts and academies. She was appointed an Order of the British Empire for services to the pharmaceutical sector in 2009.
Doherty trained in chemistry at Imperial College London.[1][2] She was at Imperial for undergraduate and graduate studies, before moving to Ohio State University as a NATO research fellow.[3] Her doctoral research investigated ionophore antibiotics.[4] She joined the Royal Society of Chemistry as a student, and has said that she understood the value it can add to people at all stages of their chemistry careers.[5]
