Aravind Srinivas

Aravind Srinivas (born June 7, 1994) is an Indian computer scientist and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, an AI-powered conversational search engine.
Education and career
Born in Chennai, India, Srinivas completed his B.Tech and M.Tech in electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He subsequently moved to the United States and earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2021.[1]
Prior to co-founding Perplexity AI in 2022, he held research positions at OpenAI, Google, and DeepMind. He advocates for a "citation-first" approach to AI, aiming to provide users with direct, verifiable answers rather than traditional search engine links.[2]
Personal life
Srinivas is known for his commitment to building a sustainable information ecosystem. Under his leadership, Perplexity AI introduced a "Publishers Program" to share revenue with content creators and media outlets whose work is cited by the engine.[3]
Srinivas was raised in a vegetarian household in India and currently practices ovo-vegetarianism.[4]
