Avantgardey is a Japanese dance company that performs internationally and in Japan. It was founded by Akane in 2022.
History
Avantgardey is a troupe of 17 female dancers who wear jumper skirt uniforms and bob hairstyles. They perform highly synchronized routines. They reportedly have exaggerated expressions[1] and deadpan stares.[2] According to the Japanese government, the troupe has worldwide popularity.[3]
Some of the dancers were originally from the Tomioka High School dance club.[4] Akane is the founder and lead choreographer.
The group participated in the USA on television in 2023 on American's Got Talent.[5] [4] Their choreography has been described as precise, humor laced, and quirky.[6]
The troupe has appeared in Singapore [7] and Hong Kong[8] as well as on Channel News Asia.[9] The troupe has performed in Malaysia[10] and Taiwan.[2] In Malaysia, one of their performances was attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia.[3]
The Government of Macau has designated the troupe as "internationally renowned". [11]
Avantgardey is a recipient of the Blooming Yako Flowering Award.[12]
Members
The members of the dance troupe are Nona, Pani, Moca, Fuka, Seira, Nagano, Ayane, Oya, Sono, Harune, Miyuu, Macchan, Aimu, Kotone, Kohana, Chacha and Ui. [4]
