Ayako Tanahashi (Japanese: 棚橋绚子; March 25, 1839 – September 23, 1939) was a Japanese educator and school administrator. She was a founder and first principal of Tokyo Girls' High School.

Tanahashi was born in Osaka (some sources give Nagoya as her birthplace),[1] the daughter of Shoyemon Ushioda.[2] She studied Chinese classics,[3][4] and married a blind scholar, Daisaku Tanahashi,[5] when she was seventeen.[1][2] They had three children.[5] Her son, Ichiro Tanahashi [ja], became an educator, scholar, and politician.[6]
