Baisha (Chinese: 白沙; pinyin: Báishā; Jyutping: baak6saa1; lit. 'white sand'; Taishanese: Bak-sa)[needs IPA] is a town of Taishan, Guangdong province.[1] As of 2018[update], it has two residential communities and 18 villages under its administration.[2] As of 2024, Baisha has a population of 90,410 residing in an area of 238 km2 (92 sq mi).[3]
Baisha town was the ancestral home of many of the first Chinese Canadians.[4] Their descendants live all over Canada, and used to predominate before the 1980s in the Chinatowns of Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Banff and Edmonton, and US West Coast cities such as San Francisco and Seattle.[5]
