It is best known today for the presence of historic Ball's Mill, built in 1842, and as the birthplace of Letitia Youmans (1827).

History

Baltimore was one of the first settlements in the Township of Hamilton. It was founded by Irish immigrant John McCarty in 1805, and was named after his family's ancestral home in Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland. Baltimore was further developed in the 1840s by Austin B. Carpenter, the first reeve of Hamilton Township. The village developed around agricultural activity and hosted a variety of mils and small industries that served the surrounding community.[2]
