The Battle of Glenboultachan was a Scottish clan battle fought in 1522 in Glen Boultachan, Perthshire, Scottish Highlands. It was fought between the Clan Macnab and the Clan Neish or MacNeish. The Macnabs won the battle.[1]

It is recorded that in 1490 James IV of Scotland issued a warrant to Lord Drummond that read:[4][5]

Whin is dias fra this dai furth to get cast doon ye hoos of ye Easter Isle of Loch Earn and distroy all ye strengthis of ye samen and tak away ye bate and put her to ye Wester Isle

This translates as:[5]

Cast down the house of the Ester (eastern) Isle of Loch Ern and destroy all the strengths of the same and take away the boat and put it at the Wester (western) Isle

The Neishes apparently had the only boat on the loch and although the dwelling was demolished the Neishes repaired it and continued to live there, occupying most of the land near St Fillans and as far west as Tyndrum.[5] The Clan Macnab and Clan Neish were at feud due to a long series of petty jealousies and grievances on both sides.[6] Frequently small groups of the clans had met and fought each other, but finally both clans mustered their full force and met at Glenboltachan where a regular battle took place.[6]
