Bayou Blue is a metropolitan area in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes, Louisiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, Bayou Blue had a population of 13,352.[3]
In June 1981, an arson attack on a local nightclub killed five people.[4]
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has an area of 23.520 square miles (60.92 km2); 23.263 square miles (60.25 km2) of its area is land, and 0.257 square miles (0.67 km2) is water.[5]

Bayou Blue was first listed as a census designated place in the 2010 U.S. census.[13]
2020 census
As of the 2020 census, there were 13,352 people, 4,738 households, and 3,049 families residing in the CDP.[14] The median age was 35.4 years. 28.2% of residents were under the age of 18 and 12.0% were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 93.0 males age 18 and over.[14]
83.8% of residents lived in urban areas, while 16.2% lived in rural areas.[15]
Of the 4,738 households, 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 52.7% were married-couple households, 16.1% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 22.5% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 20.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[14]
There were 5,073 housing units, of which 6.6% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.0% and the rental vacancy rate was 10.7%.[14][16]

Education
The Lafourche Parish portion is in the Lafourche Parish School District.[18] Schools in the Lafourche Parish part of the CDP include:[19] Bayou Blue Elementary School,[20] and Bayou Blue Middle School.[21]
Areas in Terrebonne Parish are assigned to Terrebonne Parish School District.[22]
Lafourche Parish Library operates the Bayou Blue Library.[23]
Both Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes are in the service area of Fletcher Technical Community College.[24] Additionally, a Delgado Community College document stated that both Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes were in the college's service area.[25]
