Benjamin Thomas "Ben" Hallock (/ˈhælɒk/ HAL-ok; born November 22, 1997)[2] is an American professional water polo player. He was a member of the United States men's national water polo team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.[3] He is a 2024 Olympic Bronze medalist and a three-time Olympian (2016, 2020, 2024). Hallock was captain of the 2024 summer Olympics in Paris, France. He earned Total Water Polo Team of the Olympics, after scoring seven times during the tournament.[4]

Hallock  has established himself as one of the strongest and most complete center forwards in the world, making a decisive contribution to Pro Recco which includes 3 Champion Leagues, 4 Scudetti, 4 Italian Cups and 1 Euro Cup.[4] Hallock who plays center forward position played for the Italian powerhouse club Pro Recco from 2020 to 2025.[5][1][6]

Hallock played college water polo for the Stanford Cardinal, winning the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship in 2019. Hallock was awarded the Peter J. Cutino Award as the best collegiate water polo player of the year twice in 2018 and 2019.[1][6][7] In 2026 Hallock was announced as the assistant coach of the Men’s water polo team at Stanford while he is attending Stanford GSB 27’.[1][6][7]

Early life

Hallock was born November 22, 1977 in Santa Barbara, California to Tom and Allison Hallock.[6] He was a graduate of the Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City, in greater Los Angeles, where he was trained and coached on the water polo team by Brian Flacks, who would later coach Stanford beginning around 2021.[5] Hallock led the Harvard-Westlake water polo team in both 2013 and 2014 to the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 title, as well as the 2013 and 2014 CIF Division I Championship.[1]

Stanford University

Hallock played college water polo for Stanford under Head Coach John Vargas, where he helped lead the team to the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship in 2019.[7] While at Stanford, he was awarded the Peter J. Cutino Award as the best collegiate water polo player of the year, in 2019. At Stanford, he was named First Team All-American in both 2017 and 2018. He was voted the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Year in 2017. In both 2017 and 2018, he was All-MPSF, First Team. He was Stanford's leading scorer in 2017 with 56 goals, and in 2018 had 65 goals. He led Stanford in 2019, the year the team won the NCAA water polo title, with a total of 73 goals.[1]
