The state constituency was first contested in 1986 and is mandated to return a single member to the Perlis State Legislative Assembly under the first-past-the-post voting system. Since 2022^[update], the State Assembly member for Beseri is Haziq Asyraf Dun from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
