Beveridge is an unincorporated community and ghost town located in Inyo County, California.[1] It lies at an elevation of 5587 feet (1703 m) on the eastern slope of the Inyo Mountains.[1] Beveridge was a mining boom town, and it was named in honor of early Owens Valley resident John Beveridge.[2]
Gold was discovered in the area around Beverige in November 1877 by William Lyle Hunter and others.[3][4] The Beveridge Mining District was established in early 1878.[5] Beveridge gold mining camp, which existed between the 1880s and the 1910s, was within Beveridge Canyon at the eastern side of the Inyo Mountains. Beveridge's post office was established on October 31, 1881 (with William C. Kisling acting as postmaster), but mail service was discontinued on June 5, 1882.[6]
