Biography

MacNeil, from Castletown, was a sergeant in the Catering Corps at Aldershot at the time of the 1982 Commonwealth Games.[2][3] He represented the Scottish team[4] at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia,[5] where he competed in the shooting programme.[6] He won a gold medal in the 10 metres air rifle pairs with Alister Allan and a bronze medal in the 50 metres rifle three-positions pairs, again with Allan.[7]

The following year in 1983, he retained the Scottish Air Rifle Championship and just missed out on Olympic selection[8] before winning a silver medal in the air rifle event at the 1984 Commonwealth Federation European Championships.[9]

A second Commonwealth Games ensued for the Scottish team at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh,[10] where he won another bronze medal with Alister Allan in the 50 metres rifle three positions pairs.[1]
