Billy Spivey (born January 18, 1969[2]) is an American politician[3][4] who was a Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives for the 92nd district from 2012 to November 2016 [3][4][5]

Biography
Early life
He was born on January 18, 1969.[3] He received an A.A.S. from Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee.[3] He was in the United States Army during the 1990-1991 Gulf War with the 1st Cavalry Division.[3][4][5] He also graduated from the Leadership Marshall County.[3]
Career
In 2012, he worked as a maintenance superintendent at Walker Die Casting.[4]
He is the former chairman of the Marshall County Republican Party and a former member of the Tennessee Technology Center advisory board.[3][4][6]
He first ran against Democratic congressman Eddie Bass in 2010, and lost.[5][7] He ran again in 2012, and won the November 2012, and became the state congressman for the 92nd district of Tennessee.[3][8][9] He won the election against Vicki Cain, who was chair of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce.[5]
In the Tennessee House, he was a member of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the House State Government Committee and the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee.[3] He is also a past chairman of the Marshall County Commission.[3] He expressed his concern about handing the Nickajack Reservoir over to the state of Georgia.[10] During his time in the Tennessee House, he played a pivotal role in phasing out the Hall income tax.[11] He was also a central figure in replacing Common Core in Tennessee with an alternative crafted by Tennessee-based educators and experts.[citation needed]
He lost the 2018 Republican primary for the 92nd District Representative seat to the Tennessee house of Representatives to Rick Tillis, receiving 43% of the vote.[12][13]
Spivey is a member of the Tennessee State Guard.[14]
Personal life
He married Kim Spivey, a school teacher, and they raised six daughters.[3][4][5] He is a Reformed Baptist.[3]
