Björn Stenvers

Björn Stenvers GCC KCM FRGS (born 25 May 1972, in Arnhem) is medievalist and director of Vereniging De Zaansche Molen and SaNS Expertise Center of the University of Amsterdam.[1] Until begin 2026 he was CEO of Eye Care Foundation[2][3] and before CEO at the Fonds de dotation de l’ICOM (of the International Council of Museums).[4][5][6][7][8] He was director of the foundation of the Official Museums of Amsterdam (2013-2016) which he also founded.[9] Björn was the only Dutch lecturer at RANEPA (2015-2021).[10][11]

In 2017 Stenvers founded the Altai Museum Academy,[12][13][14] the Moscow Zoo Academy,[15][16][17][18] the Aruba Museum Academy,[19][20] in 2015 the Amsterdam Museum Academy,[21][22][23][24][25] and in 2014 Rostov Kremlin Museum Academy,[26][27][28] for museum staff trainings.
He holds a number of board positions; chair of the Amsterdammer van het Jaar, the Nepal Federation Netherlands (NFN),[29][30][31] and trustee of the World Heritage Site of Brest Fortress.[32] Stenvers was married to singer Tamara Hoekwater. He is the great-grandchild of the Austrian composer Franz R. Friedl. He has several degrees in Art History, Marketing and Management.
