The multiplayer game stands out for its near-photorealistic computer graphics and realistic animations,.[2][3][4] leading the shooter to share characteristics with simulations and Tactical shooters. A distinctive feature of the game is that the faces of the player characters are pixelated.
Bodycam is not to be confused with the Roblox game Bodycam: SWAT Simulator.
Gameplay
Bodycam is a tactical shooter which is played from a first-person perspective. It features seven game modes: Body Bomb, Team Deathmatch, Versus, Hard point, Gun game, Deathmatch, Zombies as well as a training tutorial.[5][6]
An update scheduled for September 2026 will introduce FPV flying drones and ground drones (RC cars) into the gameplay as items of equipment or weapons.[7][8] When using the drones, players can choose between arcade-style handling and a driving or flight simulation mode.[9]
Development
Bodycam was developed using Unreal Engine 5 by two people from France named Luca and Leo who at the time were 17 and 20 years old, respectively.[10] The Multiplayer Zombie Mode update launched on November 8, 2024.[6]
In November 2025, an update to UE 5.5 overhauled shaders, lighting calculations, post-processing, fog, texture streaming, the UI frontend, and GPU/CPU utilization; draw calls were reduced, redundant sublevels were removed, and textures—around 90 percent of them—were converted to Virtual Textures with correct level-of-detail and compression settings.[11]
An update has been announced for September 2026 that will overhaul reload animations and ragdoll physics, as well as revise the sound design—including the addition of realistic acoustic pressure wave simulation and various movement sounds.[7][12]
Reception
Ranked as the best-selling game on the Steam platform during the first week of its release despite mixed reviews[13], the game sold 800,000 units in July 2024, generating sales of approximately €20 million.[14]
Bodycam has been praised for its realistic graphics, sound design, and gun play.[15] The game's graphics and environments have been compared to that of Unrecord (which, however, was never released (as of August 2026)),[4][16] as the two games have graphic elements in common.[1][16]
