In August 2024 it was announced that the Canadian Crusaders would be joining the MLIS, with the franchise being a relocation of former club Central Florida Crusaders of the National Indoor Soccer League which had merged with the MLIS earlier in the year.[2]

Prior to the start of the 2025–26 season, MLIS announced that the league would be split into two conferences, with the Canadian Crusaders being placed in the North Conference.[3]
