History
The locality is presumably named after the mountain Captains Mountain.[4]
In 1914, the Captain's Mountain Co-operative Dairy Company was formed with 275 shares at a cost of £1 each. The company built a cheese factory.[6] In March 1916, the factory processed 3,449 imperial gallons (15,680 L; 4,142 US gal) to produce 3,961 pounds (1,797 kg) of cheese.[7] The factory was still operating in 1931,[8] but was contemplating closure in 1934,[9] and had closed by 1939.[10]
Captain's Mountain Provisional School opened on 30 January 1922, becoming Captain's Mountain State School in 1957. It closed in 1962.[11]
