Cavco Industries, Inc. is an American company that manufactures modular homes, Recreational vehicle (RVs), vacation cabins, and manufactured homes.[2][3] It is one of the largest producers of modular homes in United States based on the number of home shipments.[3][4] Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the company operates manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico and distributes homes through independent retailers, company-owned retail centers, planned-community operators as well as residential developers in the U.S. and in parts of Canada. .[5][6]
History
Cavco traces its roots to 1965, when Al Ghelfi founded Roadrunner Manufacturing Company in Phoenix, Arizona. The business initially produced truck campers before shifting to factory-built housing after the 1973 oil crisis raised gasoline prices, reducing the demand for vacation truck campers. After acquiring his business partner’s interest, Ghelfi renamed the company Cavco Industries in 1974.[7][8] Over the years, the company has grown its reach and operations by acquiring a number of companies, namely, Fleetwood Enterprises in 2009[9][10] and Palm Harbor Homes in 2011.[11][12]
In subsequent years, Cavco continued its growth by acquiring more manufactured-housing brands and related businesses. Some acquisitions include Commodore Corporation (2021) and American Homestar (Oak Creek Homes, 2025).[13][14]
In March 2025, Cavco announced plans to unify all of subsidiaries under the brand Cavco.[15][16] The rebranding took effect in April of the same year. Under the unification, more than 30 different manufacturers came under the Cavco brand.[17]
Operations
Cavco designs and manufactures factory-built manufactured homes, modular homes, park model RVs, vacation cabins and commercial structures. Homes are distributed through independent retailers and the company's own stores as well as residential developers.[18]
In addition to building modular homes, Through subsidiaries, Cavco also provides mortgage lending and property and casualty insurance.[3]
