Central and Eastern Suffolk

It is being formed as part of ongoing local government changes throughout England, in which all areas of the country that have separate county councils and district councils will see those replaced with single-tier, or unitary, local governance.^[4]

The other new unitary authorities in Suffolk will be Western Suffolk and Ipswich and South Suffolk.^[5] The alternative proposal for a single unitary council for Suffolk, which was put forward by Suffolk County Council, was not chosen.^[6]

The largest settlement in the district will be Lowestoft, the whole of the district is currently parished. It will contain the following civil parishes:

The local authority will be Central and Eastern Suffolk Council. The first councillors will be elected in the 2027 Central and Eastern Suffolk Council election.
