William Charles ("Charlie") Clymo (30 October 1884 – 8 October 1955)[2] was the captain of the Ballarat Fire Brigade for almost forty years, and was also an excellent sportsman, being an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda. He later coached Geelong to a premiership in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Clymo was born in Bendigo and was brought up by an aunt and uncle, Bertha and Nicholas Clymo.[1] He lived in Eaglehawk, and spent his early working life as a miner and volunteer fireman,[3] travelling to and from Melbourne each Saturday to play with St Kilda.[1]
