Chilomonas is a genus of freshwater cryptophytes, including the species Chilomonas paramecium.^[2] Memebers of this genus are osmotrophic heterotrophs possessing leucoplasts but not pigmented plastids.^[3] The periplastidial compartment contains multiple nucleomorphs.^[3]
