Early life and addiction

Ferry was born in Somers Point, New Jersey, and grew up in Ventnor City. According to a profile in Shore Local Newsmagazine, his parents emphasized education and athletics, supporting his participation in multiple sports, with ice hockey becoming his primary focus. He played for elite youth teams, including the Junior Flyers and East Coast Selects, and received an invitation to try out for the U.S. National Team Development Program.[1]

During his junior year at St. Augustine Preparatory School, an incident led to his expulsion, after which he transferred to Atlantic City High School. Around this time, he began experimenting with prescription drugs, escalating to heroin and crack cocaine use. This led to family estrangement, dropping out of college, multiple DUIs, and periods of homelessness, according to his official website and interviews.[1][3][2]

Ferry achieved sobriety on 21 February 2013 after multiple relapses and rehabilitation stays.[3][1]

Career

According to Shore Local Newsmagazine, Ferry founded Boca Recovery Center in 2016 in Boca Raton, Florida, drawing on his personal recovery experiences to inform the program's approach. The center provides medical detoxification and inpatient rehabilitation services.[1][2] It has expanded to locations in New Jersey (Galloway Township and Englewood), Florida (Pompano Beach), Indiana (Bloomington and Huntington), and Massachusetts (Springfield), with approximately 375 licensed inpatient beds across six sites as of 2024.[1]

Ferry is a Certified National Master Interventionist through the National Association of Drug & Alcohol Interventionists.[2] He has collaborated with rapper RiFF RAFF on addiction awareness videos and initiatives.[4]

According to his official website, Ferry founded the online support group "Clean and Sober," which has over 77,000 members.[3]

The Boca Recovery Center's website states that more than 13,000 patients have completed treatment there.[5]

Personal life

According to his official website, Ferry resides in Boca Raton, Florida, with his wife and four children.[3]

In 2019, Ferry and his brother Michael gained media attention for a viral birthday prank on their father, Chris Ferry Sr., by erecting a billboard with his photo and phone number, urging passersby to wish him a happy birthday. The story was covered by The New York Times and other outlets.[6]

Ferry maintains a social media presence, sharing content related to sobriety and recovery.
