During the 1950s, Goretta worked for the British Film Institute in their programme planning department. His first film, Nice Time, co-directed with Alain Tanner, was made through the BFI Production Board.[2]
His 1973 film L'Invitation was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.[3] His 1981 film La provinciale was entered into the 31st Berlin International Film Festival.[citation needed]
