History

Cochrane is named for John T. Cochrane, the founder of Aliceville, Alabama.[2] Cochrane served as the superintendent of the Tuscaloosa Belt Line, which was part of the Alabama, Tennessee and Northern Railroad.[3] A post office operated under the name Cochrane from 1907 to 1972.[4]

The John T. Milner Bridge, located in Cochrane, was the first toll bridge in Alabama to be officially dedicated.[5]
