The Confederate Memorial (also known as the Confederate Monument and Confederate Soldiers of Florida), was installed in Jacksonville, Florida's Hemming Park, in the United States.[1] The monument was removed in June 2020.
The 59 feet (18 m) tall structure is approximately 4 feet (1.2 m) wide, with a base measuring approximately 3 feet (0.91 m) x 9 feet (2.7 m). The granite shaft is topped with a bronze statue of a young Confederate soldier, who wears a cap, coat, and cape, and stands with his arms resting on a rifle's barrel.[1] Each of the base's four sides have relief panels and carvings. The front plaque has a bust of John Jackson Dickison, and the back plaque features a bust of Edmund Kirby Smith. One of the sides is decorated with an anchor and two crossed oars; the opposite side depicts a battle scene with soldiers on foot and horseback. The memorials is set within a rectangular pool.[1]
One of the inscriptions on the base reads:[1]
