The Controller and Accountant General (CAG) is the head of the Controller and Accountant-General's Department), a civil service department under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Ghana. The department was established in 1885 during the pre-independence era of the Gold Coast, originally known as the "Treasury". In 1937, it was renamed the "Accountant-General’s Department". It acquired its current designation; Controller and Accountant-General's Department in 1967, reflecting expanded responsibilities in financial control and budget execution.[2] It operates under the Civil Service Act, 1960 (CA. 5), the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, and the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).[2][4][5]
