In Greek mythology, Cynortas (/sɪˈnɔːrtəs/; Ancient Greek: Κυνόρτας, lit. 'rousing the dogs' or 'one who excites/ sets hounds in motion'[1]) or Cynortes (/sɪˈnɔːrtiːz/; Ancient Greek: Κυνόρτης) or Cynortus was a king of Sparta.
Family
Cynortas was the son of King Amyclas of Sparta[2] and Queen Diomede, and thus brother to King Argalus,[3] Hyacinthus,[4] Laodamia[5] (or Leanira[6]), Hegesandre,[7] Harpalus,[8] Polyboea[9] and in other versions, of Daphne.[10] He was the father of Oebalus[3] or of Perieres,[11] who either succeeded to the throne.
