Dadan Hindayana (born 10 July 1967) is an Indonesian academic, entomologist,[1] and bureaucrat. He served as the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), the government agency responsible for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.[2]

Personal life
Education
Dadan Hindayana was born in Garut, West Java. He completed his secondary education at SMA Negeri Cimindi Cimahi, Bandung Regency (now SMA Negeri 13 Bandung) in 1986 and was a classmate of Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander Agus Subiyanto.[3] He received a bachelor's degree in Plant Protection from the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in 1990. He later earned a master's degree in Applied Entomology from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1997, followed by a doctorate from Leibniz University Hannover, Germany, in 2000.[1][2] From his undergraduate studies through his doctoral degree, his academic focus was in the field of entomology.
Career
Hindayana began his career as a permanent lecturer at IPB. He later held several strategic positions at the university, serving as Secretary of the Office for the Preparation of Autonomy Implementation (2001–2002), Director of the Directorate of Institutional Development and Supporting Enterprises (2003–2008), and acting director of the Directorate of Cooperation (2007–2008). He subsequently served as chairman of the Banau College of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship (STPK) in North Halmahera Regency from 2014 to 2022.[4]
On 19 August 2024, Hindayana was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo as the first Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).[1] He remained in office during the presidency of Prabowo Subianto.

Controversies
During his tenure as Head of the National Nutrition Agency, several of Hindayana's statements and policies attracted public attention and debate. These included his remarks about drinking two litres of milk per day, which he later clarified reflected his personal experience rather than an official recommendation of the agency,[8] and the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme during Ramadan under a modified distribution mechanism.[9]
