Toomey assumed office on December 5, 2018. Toomey is a Democrat.[2] Toomey endorsed Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries.[3]

Toomey resides in Nashua, New Hampshire.[4] Toomey is married and has five children,[1] including U.S. Representative Val Hoyle.[5]
