David Joel King (born May 19, 1963) is an American former professional football defensive back who played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers. He was selected by the Chargers in the tenth round of the 1985 NFL draft after playing college football at Auburn University.
David Joel King was born on May 19, 1963, in Mobile, Alabama.[1] He attended Fairhope High School in Fairhope, Alabama.[1]
College career
King was a four-year letterman for the Auburn Tigers from 1981 to 1984.[1] He earned United Press International first-team All-SEC honors in both 1983 and 1984 and Associated Press second-team All-SEC honors in both 1983 and 1984.[2][3][4][5] The 1983 Tigers were named national champion by NCAA-designated major selectors of Billingsley, College Football Researchers Association, and The New York Times, while named co-national champion by both Rothman and Sagarin.[6] King recorded three interceptions in 1981, six interceptions in 1982, two interceptions and one interception return touchdown in 1983, and one interception in 1984.[7]
